Data We Collect
We collect the data you provide directly when creating your account and using the app, including: your name, email address, age, gender, marital status, approximate location (country/city only), your profile photo, and free-text descriptions about yourself and the partner you're looking for. We also collect data of a sensitive nature related to religious and lifestyle compatibility — such as religious observance, prayer, fasting, smoking, and general health status — used solely for matching purposes between users. We additionally collect limited technical data, such as device type and device identifiers, for security and to support notifications.
How We Use Your Data
We use your data to operate the app and its features, show your profile to suitable users, improve match quality, secure your account, and send notifications related to your activity (such as likes, messages, and matches). We do not use your data for advertising or marketing to third parties, and the app does not include any analytics or ad-tracking tools.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data to anyone. We share limited data only with trusted service providers who work on our behalf to run the app, each performing one specific technical function — such as hosting our data and photos on secure cloud infrastructure, managing store-based subscriptions and purchases, and delivering notifications and email verification messages. We also share basic account information with Google if you choose to sign in with a Google account, solely to complete that sign-in. Every service provider is contractually bound to protect your data and use it exclusively to provide their service to us, for no other purpose. We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking tools.
Data Protection
We apply reasonable security measures to protect your data, including: encrypting the connection between your device and our servers (TLS), storing your password in an irreversibly hashed form, and restricting access to your data to authorized personnel for legitimate operational purposes. That said, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and you are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential.
Messages
Your messages are stored within the app to enable communication and to allow us to review reports when needed. Inactive conversations are automatically deleted after an extended period of inactivity. Sharing or publishing a conversation outside the app without the other party's explicit consent is prohibited under our Terms & Conditions.
Location Data
When setting up your profile, we may request access to your location to automatically determine your country and city. We never store your precise coordinates — location is used momentarily to determine your general area and then discarded. Other users only ever see your location at the country/city level, with no precise detail.
Your Profile Photo
Every profile photo is manually reviewed by our team before it becomes visible to anyone else. By default, your photo appears blurred to other users, and is only shown clearly once you approve a photo request from that user. You can withdraw that permission or block any user at any time. Please keep in mind that, as with any digital content, we cannot guarantee that another party won't save or share an image after viewing it, so we encourage caution when approving photo requests.
Your Rights Over Your Data
You can access or update your data at any time through your profile settings, and you can request full account deletion from within the app. For any data-related request that can't be completed in-app, you can contact us through the support section.
Data Retention & Deletion
When you request account deletion, you're given a 7-day grace period during which you can cancel the request. After that period: your name, profile photo, and free-text descriptions are permanently erased, and your remaining profile data (such as matching preferences) can no longer be linked back to your identity. Records of blocks and reports associated with your account, and device-level safety data used at signup, are retained for an indefinite period, solely for safety purposes and to prevent abuse or ban evasion through new accounts. You can also use the "Reset Activity" option in Settings to clear your interactions (likes, visits, conversations) without deleting your account entirely.
Security
We apply reasonable security practices to protect your account and data, including protection against repeated failed login attempts and management of active sessions. We recommend using a strong password and never sharing it with anyone.
Minimum Age
Wanees is intended exclusively for adults seeking serious, lawful marriage, and may not be used by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If we become aware that an account belongs to someone under the legal age, it will be terminated and its data deleted as soon as this is discovered.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our services or legal requirements. We'll notify you of material changes, and continuing to use the app after an update takes effect constitutes your acceptance of it.
